Can we talk about mental health and how it is affecting the youth in our society today.

  • 2

A lot of us are going through societal pressures that we may or may not have control of. The lack of jobs and the notion that we should have accomplished certain milestones at a particular age are driving us crazy. Who can we talk to? Therapy is expensive and most of us are not comfortable opening up to our parents or friends. What can we do about this? Feel free to engage.

One thing that I think mostly brings this up, is the failed parenting system. Most of our parent’s aren’t that free with there kids and they grow not being used to sharing. That’s why lots of our youths are depressed. The society also expects alot from us and yet they do not advocate for mental health

Mental health has always affected, not only the youth but also children and the elderly. In the past, we had coping mechanisms.

Sadly, schools in Nigeria o longer consider a child’s mental health when designing curriculums unless you have oil money to invest in a good school.

That’s why we have many dropouts, teenage pregnancies, students using drugs… they are all looking for an outlet.
