This week on #FatumasVoice: BOY CHILD
When society looks at men, they expect to see security, provision, responsibility and much more… but how much do we invest in the boy child to grow up into this ideal ‘Man’?
This brought us to think, Does the “boy child” even exist?
If yes, do they have mentors to learn from?
If yes, do the mentors dedicate enough of their time and are they people to look up to?
Bringing up a well-rounded son may not be an easy task.
Some are slow to pick up basic social graces, and tend to be more interested in video games and football than people. No one pays attention until they marry your daughter or get into a position of influence, then we start asking: Why is he not a man?
Should we start letting the Boy Child show his emotions more and give him physical affection. Like Walter Schirra puts it; You don’t raise heroes, you raise sons. If you treat them like sons, they’ll turn out to be heroes, even if it’s just in your own eyes.
Whether you have a son or daughter, children are after all children. They are innocent and susceptible. We need to give as much care and empowerment to the Boy Child as we do to the Girl Child.
What do you think about this?
Come and give us your two cents as we enjoy the Art | Poetry | Music at #FatumasVoice this Friday!
