If the Bible has been translated to all the Local Languages in Kenya, Why hasn’t the Constitution been Translated in the same way? We still ask Kenyans to promote their culture and we still can’t give them access to the most important document on the land through Translation.

  • 10

Some People may say the Constitution keeps changing but since the Promulgation of the New constitution, it hasn’t changed much. Just few amendments which can easily be translated too. I believe there are many Kenyans who haven’t been able to access education and are missing out on what the constitution, the rules of engagement in the daily affairs of the Nation entails.

This may simply be one of the reasons apart from Corruption as to why a Chicken thief gets 5 years in prison and doesn’t appeal while looters of public coffers get only 4M fine or just 4 years in prison.

The same constitution states that there is a right to access of information. But doesn’t this inability and unavailability of a Translated constitution act as a barrier to access of information to many who don’t understand or read English or Swahili and are Kenyans? It’s even difficult to access a Swahili written constitution!

Translation of our Constitution in local languages must be govt priority. Reverend Fr Gaetano Batanyenda’s interview titled “Museveni is hostage of his actions and people around him” published by the Sunday Monitor of September 23, captivated me. The man of God gives prophetic words in his interview which if followed would deliver this country. I find very enthralling, the fact that he decries the failure by the government to translate the Constitution into the different local languages.

The constitution should be translated. We should organise ourselves and do the translation. That way we control the content and process to ensure transparency and accuracy.

The effort put in for translation to take place is huge. Law makers do not share the same zeal with missionaries

The translation of the bible is not a good example because it is a tool of manipulation while the constitution is a tool of that enables one to know their rights better.

Why would the people who seek to control and steal from the nation want you to have the constitution in every language? In fact, we are lucky enough to have what we do.

I have seen Swahili translations available. Who will read the local language translations when very few people even know their language. Even if we can speak, it is almost had to read and write complex terms. Maybe we should introduce local languages in school.

Hey Phanice, have you studied the history of the bible and religion as a whole? If you do you may understand what I mean. You will even be both surprised and flabbergasted at the same time because of how a public secret like this has been ignored. To make it all worse, this ignorance is not optional or accidental… it is well calculate and people go to extra lengths just to maintain it that way. Just do three searches online and you’ll be back here singing a different song. ☺️

I think that sadly I have to agree with you on this. Sadly as much as the bible is meant to nourish Christians, it is greatly used to manipulate, take advantage of people and it had to be translated first since the people who brought the scriptures had so much to gain from the same.
The constitution, however, Individuals who get enlightened will be deemed as problematic by the guys who will benefit the greatest from clueless individuals.
