Is entitlement and mediocrity killing the growth of young entrepreneurs?

  • 2

Entitlement and mediocrity are some of the greatest obstacles hindering so many young founders from achieving greatness in this era of free borderless markets.

1. Entitlement. Somehow, we feel that someone owes us something and this could range from the capital, networks, consumption of our products or services. This is far from the truth. No one owes you anything, it is upon you to prove your/product/service worth beyond doubt that it is the best. No doubt, if it’s worth it it will be supported and consumed.

This, however, does not mean I am blind to the fact that business is hard and that to progress a lot of forces have to come together. It just means that you are 100% responsible for moving those forces.

2. Mediocrity. I have never been a strong supporter of the buy Kenyan by Kenyans or buy from your friends, family, etc narratives simply because it does not foster competitiveness.

What this leads to is young founders creating mediocre products and services that can not compete beyond friends and family or internationally.

I don’t believe products and services should be consumed based on relationships. I should buy it because it’s the best. Out products should be so great that if you were to take it to South Africa where your friends and family aren’t, they are able to compete.

Striving to make great products for the clients is a sure way to achieve consistent business growth not only locally but Internationally.

Thank you for this well of knowledge. Really, I’m very very informed.

Mediocrity is killing many great business ventures in Lagos and Abuja. People only chase quick bucks.
