Is Faith as ‘unquestionable belief’ still a relevant definition in this century of religious con-men and women? Or should faith be questionable?

  • 8

For long to have faith, within the religious context, is to believe in someone (God) or something (God’s power to ‘save’) without questioning (or doubting) his ways mostly interpreted to you by his (anointed) servants (pastors, priests).

However, there seems to have risen a new team of servants who preach an extended version of doctrines and especially in the Christian Religion.

It is a season for radical supplications seeking material wealth.

It is a season for priest who stop at nothing to ‘extort’ money from their flocks and they are covered by this very definition of faith.

The flocks harbor an intense version of ‘unquestionable belief’. It is the season for miracles and these putative servants of G(g)od have perfected the art. People are resurrecting, healed, bathing with sodas, receiving calls from heaven directly…it is a whole mess!

Is it time we questioned our beliefs? And what are the factual (not true) answers we expect?

Hollywood’s definition of the “faith audience” boils down to churchgoers, often Evangelical Protestants, well enough off to afford a night at the movies, interested in inspirational Biblical adaptations and movies about heaven, family, and genial, good neighbors, and highly critical of any sexuality or bad language.

Faith is a personal once you invite peoples opinions it becomes a meaningless debate because we all have different versions of who God is and will never agree.

This is a paradox! Questioning faith means you don’t have it but lack of questioning means you can’t fully understand what you believe in.

The very nature of faith is its unquestionability. The moment you start questioning, it ceases to exist as faith and changes into theory or ideas or gut feeling.

Faith is believing in something without knowing the end from the beginning. So these con men are really a question of religion and spirituality. While religion is more of rules and expectations (showing off), spirituality is more of a lifestyle (personal relationship with God). The problems is with the show-offs who lack knowledge on God. So in their quest to raise their ‘status’, they catch a cold when their ‘pastors’ cough. So whatever their men in cloth say they do and believe. So unless people decide to read and understand the bible well, the church business will still be a boom!

Not questioning faith is one of the main reasons we have so many con men and women masquerading as genuine people of god while stealing from unsuspecting believers. We need to question everything.

Nowadays, people do not read that much. It is rare to find someone seated down with a novel or a Bible (for that matter). Instead, many guys are reading and sharing memes, photos and funny jokes on social media.

When people do not read (the word of God), they are easy preys for con-pastors and the so-called false prophets. In that case, the definition of faith as “unquestionable belief” is erroneous. Their faith is like the faith of a child who is yet to mature and reasons things out on his or her own. Faith comes through hearing and hearing the word of God.
