Research shows that violent people who have say a mental disorder that leads to their actions are more likely to exhibit violence more when in extremely stressful situations. This means that during the Lockdown, such individuals have limited options to hide their frustrations as they might normally engage in antisocial behavior to cope with their problems. These then causes an increase in domestic violent because these individuals can only resort to violence to cool off their stress. In short, my question to your answer is yes. I do think this pandemic has had a great impact on the cases of not only marital violence but other forms of Gender Based Violence. My information is based on DSM-5 as published by the American Psychiatric Association.

Where is the data to prove this? I agree that there is a risk of domestic violence but not sure about an increase. Please share your statistics and data links.

No only alcoholics perpetrate GBV, even those who don’t take alcohol do. There are those who have never beat their partners but all of sudden they start doing it.

In my mind: I really do not think it is “Increasing” especially because bars are closed and only alcoholics are taking alcohol. So I believe the GBV that is happening is just that those people who beat their wives are stuck at home with their wives and there is no where to escape. Could be more frequent in the same people.

Wife beaters cannot be made because of the lockdown. They already existed before. Actually i would say that more husbands are afraid to beat their wives now because they have to sleep in the same bed every day and they could be killed in their sleep.

PS: This is not based on any research or evidence.

This is the most interesting view I have heard about GBV and the lockdown. Many organisations and people are creating imaginary situations based on assumptions. This makes sense. The abuse has always been there, the lockdown just makes it more condusive for the abusers.
