We woke up to news of Mutahi Kagwe firing a Top KEMRI Scientist over delayed Coronavirus results. Although this decision was defended by the Government many questions are still unanswered.
Was it a normal dismissal or a deeper disagreement on inner dealings in relation to the Coronavirus. The National Emergency Response Committee have describe the dismissal of the researcher at KEMRI as an administrative action but there seems to be more than meets the eye.
Finding a person with qualified experience especially during a crisis is not easy. The years it takes to get to his level would not be easily thrown away just like that because of late results. If this was a in-house disciplinary action, then KEMRI had the option of giving him a compulsory leave, or suspension.
With the current uncertain situation in the country, people are speculating secretive reasons that involve integrity on how they are planning to managing the whole COVID19 situation. I wouldn’t be surprised if a corruption scandal pops up after a while. Too bad it will be too late as usual.
