Democracy in its holistic sense is the best system to get the best out of our leaders, however,
the concept of democracy practiced in Ghana and most African countries are often tailored to meet the interest of the aristocrats.

Until there is a paradigm shift from what ought to be – to win the next election and what is expedient and proper to propel the development agenda now or in the future, it will difficult to appreciate the essence of voting every 4 years.

Democracy allows us to choose our leaders who we think have the best of intention as opposed to other systems.

Unfortunately, the trust reposed in these individuals is immediately worn-out after a year in office because they take electorates for granted and do the opposite of what they promised.

It sad leaders of today take advantage of the legislative gaps in their constitution to defeat the purpose of democracy i.e lack of accountability, inconsistency, and discontinuity of governance (absence of a bidding national development framework) corruption and these boils down to the political appointment of institutional heads.

If only institutions like the office of the special prosecutor, CHRAJ, Security services, judiciary, media, legislature and others in most African countries will be made adequately independent (not just on paper) availability of needed resources to function effectively and efficiently, and there is a clear understanding of their respective role towards nation building then we will come to the realization that democracy is not just JUST but a tool for political dynamism and nation-building.
