According to the World Health Organization, Maternal health refers to the health of women during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. While motherhood is often a positive and fulfilling experience, for too many women it is associated with suffering, ill-health and even death.
The major direct causes of maternal morbidity and mortality include haemorrhage, infection, high blood pressure, unsafe abortion, and obstructed labour.
May groups the world over have come up to help expectant women deliver healthier babies. One such organization is Totohealth, who are our guests this Saturday. They use mobile technology to help reduce maternal and child mortality and detect development abnormalities in a child by enabling parents to receive targeted and personalized messages timed at your child’s age or stage of pregnancy. These messages are able to highlight any warning signs in a child’s health.
They shall share with us their reasons to begin this initiative in Kenya, their impact so far, as well as their vision. Please join us for another amazing evening of learning, poetry, music, and honest talk. Is our ignorance failing our mothers?
