Do you think there is a codial relationship between Africa countries when we talk of our music industries?

I’m in Ghana and i only see Ghanaian arts featuring their neighboring country thus Nigeria. You hardly see them feature different countries aside Nigeria and sometimes South Africa

There is a lack of business acumen in the entertainment industry. Most artists are in it for passion or as a hobby or for hype. If we could add a business angle to it with good management then we can talk about it as an industry that even the government will be genuinely interested in.

I would say it also depends on what language dominates what region. In East Africa, Tanzanian and Ugandan artist are well known in Kenya and Kenyan artist well appreciated in our neighboring countries as well. Simply because most music will be in Swahili or laced with Swahili or English when it’s not totally Swahili. Also, artist like Yemi Alade and Chidinma are well known in Kenya thanks to projects like coke studio just as Sauti Sol may have a good number of fans in Nigeria. If more collaborations can be made across boarders, better relationship cam be created. Otherwise language barrier is such a hindrance in some cases.

That’s also true but here in Ghana we have local language but not all arts in Gh understands all the local languages but in terms of collaborations they do well and collaborate with them by learning the languge. Some Gh arts do original dancehall and to be a dancehall art you have to know the “Patoi language” which is originated in Jamaica. Its not our language but because of collaborations here and there we have learnt how to talk in “Patoi”. Nigerians don’t know our local languages and vice versa but still they do collaborate with us. So i think more collaboration in different countries will take us far.

We don’t even have relationships within our own countries. Let’s fix that first then talk about different African countries coming together.

That’s true tho. It’s like everybody wants to be ahead of his or her co- art so it makes it very difficult to put our songs out there but when we work hand in hand we will reach there together
