Nyach was a dedicated social justice activist, digital media marketer, hiphop artist, poet, loving husband and faithful friend to thousands of people who depended on his formidable work ethic and reliable loyalty.
His love for unity in the arts was unmatched. His promising life was cut short by careless driving, one of the many vices he spoke vehemently against.Daniel 'Garang' Nyacharo: Celebrating a Legend #NyachLegacy Click To Tweet
Inspiration from John Garang de Mabior:
John Garang de Mabior led the Sudan People’s Liberation Army during the Second Sudanese Civil War. Following a peace agreement, he briefly served as First Vice President of Sudan for 3 weeks until his death in a helicopter crash on 30 July 2005.
He inspired a generation of activists and social change makers across Africa. Among them was Daniel Odhiambo Nyacharo aka Nyach Garang.
“We are not anybody’s burden; we are masters in our own house. We are confident in ourselves and of the future…
Let us unite against ethnic, religious, and racial divides to restore personal dignity for all.
Let us move from total economic dormancy to total vibrancy; from relegation and resignation to a cycle of poverty, destitution and misery to activism, hope and excitement.”Dr. John Garang de Mabioor’s Speech In 1990, A Year After The SPLA’s Capture Of Torit In 1989
A humble teenager who grew up in Dandora Estate. Hobnobbing with Kenya’s Hiphop titans, Kalamashaka, and football maestros from the Mathare Youth Sports Association, a community development organization that uses sports to engender broad socio-economic development, while also affecting social change.
Nyach coined his stage name “Garang” motivated by the late SPLA South Sudanese leader. Garang is a common name used by the Dinka people of South Sudan.
The name has different definitions among the Dinka people i.e. the Bor Community or Twic East Community. They refer it to the God of women. And in Bahr el Ghazal the name can be defined as God.John Garang de Mabior of Sudan inspired a generation of activists and social change makers across Africa. True to the name, Nyach Garang’s hard hitting lyrics and poetry shook the world around him as though they were riveting accounts of the legendary freedom fighter.
Perhaps his earliest successes spewed from the sensational genus of hiphop artists hailing from the Amplified Studio that was located at Daystar University where he was a Project Management student.
His verve and relishing zest for social justice was remarkably evident in his passionate arrangements.
