#PrayforKano Why do African presidents ask for prayer when their leadership seems to fail?

  • 0

#Prayforkano is Trending in Nigeria after strange deaths and I am so angry right now about whatever is happening at Kano State. There has been an unknown disease or ailment that is not similar to Coronavirus but is also causing sudden mass deaths. The lockdown makes it is even harder for the people of kano as it is Ramadan’s timing for Islamic prayers.

The strange illness which is speculated tone meningitis has killed prominent residents who didn’t have Coronavirus symptoms. I know the people of Kano are scared cannot even explain what is going on in the ancient city but the last thing we need is sympathy. The government should use its resources to solve such issues.

As usual, the government only responded after a lady on Twitter asked what they are officially doing to address the numerous claims of multiple deaths in the state. The Ministry Of Health responds to the lady by saying that they are Investigating Claims Of Mysterious Deaths, which have reportedly risen to 640 in one week. Today, Nigeria has 1,182 confirmed coronavirus cases, 222 recoveries, and 35 deaths.

President Buhari, through his personal aid Bashir Ahmad, just asked Nigerians to pray for Kano. The first thing they said was that Nigerians should put aside their political and religious differences and pray for the state. Why should we only unite during a tragedy? If politicians only work is to urge people to pray, then we either send them away or continue treating them with fear and respect like gods.

That is the African leaders we have. God becomes their burden when they can’t lead. Sad.
