I believe culture is supposed to be ever evolving. The cultures that we know have been diluted and transformed over many years before our grandparents and parents taught them to us. I think as Africans it is our duty to educate others (and ourselves) on the history of African culture and celebrate it as when once knew it and in its modern form. If we are not careful culture can stop us from growing and making the most of this new era of knowlegede because we are desperately holding on to these practices that “define our identity”. If a change in culture threatens your identity then your identity isn’t strong enough to begin with.
It isn’t fair to constantly challenge the western world on their interest in African cultures, except in times of appropriation. Many times it is culture appreciation with a dash of ignorance. A simple conversation would do with maybe some resource to point them in the right direction.
