Is Felix Tshisekedi DRC presidential campaign and win a historic prophesy come true for Africa?
His journey can be compared to that of Raila Odinga in Kenya, Kizza Besigye in Uganda and Morgan Tsvangirai in Zimbabwe. The only difference is that none of them got to become presidents.
Just like other African Presidents, DRC’s outgoing President, Joseph Kabila had chosen a successor, Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary. Latest News of Felix Tshisekedi election as president of DRC is an African dream come true. Almost like when Moi stepped down after 24 years in Power! This is a sign that democracy always wins. Not everyday will you hear the opposition leader named winner in African Presidential election.
The campaign to oppose the outgoing government in DRC started with his Father, Etienne Tshisekedi who just died 2 years ago. As the son of the legendary Etienne Tshisekedi, (who led opposition to three successive presidents over 35 years) He has inherited the political opposition struggle and owes a lot to his father who sadly can’t be here to witness the moment.
Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo political profile is beyond leadership of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress, the oldest and largest opposition party of the Democratic Republic of Congo. I hope all the work that was done by his predecessors, leading to this moment, will brings fruits to the people of DRC now that they are in power.
Although the world and international community expected Felix Tshiseked to win, it was still a surprise when Congo’s electoral commission declared him the winner of a contentious presidential election. This is obviously because of the electoral fraud that is almost always present in most of Africa’s presidential elections.
As president elect of DRC, Felix Tshisekedi who is 55 years old has a lot of DRC history to undo and I wonder what steps he will take in the first 100 days of his presidency. Most specifically, I would like to see how he deals with the war and natural resource loss that is happening in the vast jungles of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Judging by peoples posts on Twitter on the hashtag #DRCElections, mentions on his twitter handle @Fatshi and news online, Felix Tshisekedi was indeed the peoples choice. Because of this, I have more faith in Africa. I will be following his leadership to see what changes come along. But so far this is still a historic moment that has been stolen from may other African presidents.
Do you think Raila Odinga, Kizza Besigye, Morgan Tsvangirai and other African opposition leaders deserved the same but electoral fraud and rigging stole it from them?
