African Music is a tool just like Art, Dance among many others… Now back to your question, how beneficial is it? It is now. It is actually as useless as the leaders in power. Gone are the days when music led to a revolution, when music was a source of education, when music could overthrow a sitting president!
Today, it has be diluted by the west and watered down in meaning to the point that it has lost respect. People who do music today are looked down upon. It no longer has the prestige it once held.
We can choose to revive all this by putting the right people in positions of power and realising how powerful we are.
