A few days ago Halima Aden announced she’s quitting fashion due to her religious beliefs. She said she felt the fashion industry has made her ‘stray’ and ‘lose her soul’. I can’t help but feel somewhat disappointed because of everything she’s achieved. For a Kenyan Somali woman refugee, she broke so many barriers including becoming the first Muslim Supermodel to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated wearing a burkini. I completely understand her reasons but what’re your thoughts on religion ‘limiting’ her or ‘helping’ her authenticate herself more?
