What is your definition of a patriarchal society? Do you think we are living in a patriarchal society?
In a society where men have vast properties, have a lot of capital, are the majority in leadership, perform better academically, (name them), you would think it is male-dominated.
On the other hand, there are more men in prisons; there are more men in the streets; most men are drug users; most men commit suicide; most men die in wars…
Women today are advantaged from political positions to job opportunities, academically and socially…
Unless the society is tyrannical, we cannot argue that it is patriarchal or matriarchal. The areas that men dominate are competency-based while most communities if not all, are patriarchal to some degree.
With all these considered, do you think the society today is majorly patriarchal?

It is patriarchal considering the facts that all the best awards almost 98% may it be leadership, education, and all sectors are only by men and less percent of women

is this a war of the sexual identities and if yes, where do the the other sex identities fall? There are people who don’t identify as men or women either as a result of birth defects and anomalies or wrong sex assignment.

The works is 100% patriarchal and it keeps getting worse. We have been treated like second class citizens from salary, to positions, to promotions.

We don’t live in a patriarchal society. We are the ones who are obsessed with labelling everything around us. Yes we have oppression in some areas in life and this oppression may affect women more than it affects men but that does not mean the society as a whole is patriarchal.
Joy Okediji
Sadly this is a patriarchal society and theres nothing we can do about it. We contribute to it each day as women and even benefit from its flaws.

The present wave of feminism has corrupted our understanding of social roles. If we focused more on performance, then it wouldn’t matter ho holds the position. While matriarchy refers to a kind of society that is dominated by women, patriarchy is a social system in which males play a dominant role. In literal terms, matriarchy refers to the rule by the mother(s), whereas patriarchy refers to the rule by the father(s).
