Cancer was for long a very foreign disease until recently. Most people from Africa even called it the white mans disease because of the few local cases.
However, over the last two decades, there has been a rise in cancer cases and cancer is becoming more common in Nigeria. Even worse, the new reported cases are not attended to in time because of challenges like lack of awareness, health insurance, facilities or funds. This has reduced the cancer survival rates and made it common to hear of deaths caused by cancer.
I am not sure of the statistics but is this the same case across the continent and what can be done to reverse the rise of cancer in Sub-Saharan Africa?
